SUMMARY: Nature Environment & Wildlife Society had organized a health camp on 17th of October 2011, at Rudranagar , Sagar block of, Sunderbans which was funded by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

The programme took place at a primary school in Sunderban. Dr. S. Banerjee (Eye Specialist), Dr. R. K Nayak(General Medicine and Public Health) went to Sunderban for the camp .The programme started around 9.00 am and ended at around 3.00 pm. Around 198 patients, irrespective of age limit, came for the medical checkup. Common symptoms that were diagnosed by the doctors were high fever, digestive problem, skin disease etc.

Free medicines were provided to the patients according to their requirement. In absence of minimal medical infrastructure in the area this effort helps in building the confidence of the community who are actively taking part in afforestation programme of mangroves and this programme is supported by funding from other corporate sources to support the LIVELIHOODS initiative.

The programme took place at a primary school in Sunderban. Dr. S. Banerjee (Eye Specialist), Dr. R. K Nayak(General Medicine and Public Health) went to Sunderban for the camp .The programme started around 8.00 am and ended at around 3.00 pm. Around 221 patients, irrespective of age limit, came for the medical checkup. Common symptoms that were diagnosed by the doctors were Eye Problem mostly cataract among the elderly people, digestive problem, skin disease etc.

Free medicines were provided to the patients according to their requirement. In absence of minimal medical infrastructure in the area this effort helps in building the confidence of the community who are actively taking part in afforestation programme of mangroves and this programme is supported by funding from other corporate sources to support the LIVELIHOODS initiative.

Nature Environment & Wildlife Society NEWS has organized Medical Camps in different parts of Sunderbans, such as in Gosaba, Canning, Sagar, Nafargange, Basanti etc. The main purpose of these camps was to diagnose the health problem faced by the people living in this threatened ecosytem and also to make them aware about their health problem and as well as basic sanitation and also provide them with basic free medicines.
